IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?
LEXIE MILLER: I am from Vancouver Washington, just outside of Portland Oregon.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
LEXIE MILLER: Music has always been a big part of my life; we always had music playing in my house. My mom and I would have dance parties all the time. My mom was in the church choir when I was growing up so I was always around music. I joined the kid’s choir at church and have always been in choir in school. I taught myself how to play the Phantom of the Opera on the piano when I was 5 and started writing songs when I was 7 years old. When I was 12 I started teaching myself how to play guitar.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?
LEXIE MILLER: I really want to do my own music because I want to connect with people on a level that will inspire them, to give them hope that things will get better in the tough times and to let them know that they are not alone. Music touches us on such a deep level that can take you from the worst day to the best day in one song. It feeds your soul and if I could do that for people so that they can get through tough times, or make the good times even better. I want to put a smile on their face and hope in their heart then I have done my job.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
LEXIE MILLER: My songs are about everyday life, they are my life experiences. I like to keep the message real and positive, there are some heavy subject matters too because life is not all rainbows and butterflies. I think that as an artist it is our job to encourage people that have gone through hard times as well as celebrate in the good times. I want my songs to be more of a soundtrack of life than just songs in the background.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who is your fan base directed towards?
LEXIE MILLER: That is a good question, I typically set out to direct my music to tweens and young adults. As I have been growing my social media I have seen people from all walks of life and everything from tweens to soccer moms and marines!
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
LEXIE MILLER: How much time do we have? Demi Lovato and Adele because they are so honest with her music and I really connect with that. Taylor Swift, because she is so amazing with her fans. Meghan Trainor because she is a beast when it comes to releasing music and I aspire to do the same thing. Justin Bieber and Katy Perry because they are not afraid to put statements about their faith in their music. Miley Cyrus because when I was younger she was the person that made me believe that I could be on that stage one day. Lastly Michael Jackson, he was so brilliant and his music was and still is my favorite.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?
LEXIE MILLER: I would say that it is upbeat with a bit of sass and just enough beat to get you moving! It’s not your typical top 40 but not alternative either it’s just me. I don’t know how else to explain it.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
LEXIE MILLER: I think the biggest thing that sets me apart is the fact that I have a solid work ethic; I have been working in the industry since I was 5. I started out as a child model and my agent quickly discovered that I was gifted in acting as well so I started to do more print ads, short films and by the time I was 7 had worked on major films with actors like Diane Lane, Collin Hanks and Billy Burke. I am a true triple threat that is not afraid to put in the hours and work it takes to get the job done. I also have to say that I have a big support system in place as well, my family all supports what I do and my mom is my manager. I also think that because I have the ability to write all my own music it sets me apart.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?
LEXIE MILLER: I am currently working on putting together a music video for my song Blue Cocoon, and writing songs for my album I hope to release later this year. I also am working with a local company to put on a benefit concert to raise money for Habitat for Humanity we are hoping to build 10 houses for families with young children and have them in their new homes for Christmas.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
LEXIE MILLER: My career goals……People tell me I am crazy but I really want to sell out the Garden in less than 10 minutes. It is my dream to play the Garden. I would also like to have a world tour, play for our troops, and sweep the award shows. I would love to be a cross over artist as an actress and model. I also want to establish a charity for children and teens that have suffered from domestic violence and abuse that uses the arts as a way of therapy.
Wow in ten years….. I see myself touring, making movies and working with the kids in my charity. Hopefully there is a guy in the picture LOL.
