IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?
THA JEWLER: I’m from the city of Roses and home of Nike, Portland, Oregon.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
THA JEWLER: As a small child my favorite toys were my basketball and my drum-set. I played a lot as a kid, then I gravitated more towards basketball as I got older. Throughout the years I’d mess around with this program called FL Studio or Fruity Loops. I didn’t become too serious about it for a while. I’d make beats on the computer during the summer while attending a local summer program called Self Enhancement Inc., SEI for short. During the summer heading into my freshman year of college I downloaded it and started to learn it well enough to produce ideas on it and save them. I have produced for other artists locally, nationally and globally. Birdy Gunz, DJ Chill, Compton AV and Mistah Fab are a few to mention. I’ve been on tour with Red Cafe when he was signed to Bad Boy Records. I’ve had the privilege of opening for Nipsey Hustle, Kirko Bangz, Kidd Ink, Big Gipp, Joe Moses, Glasses Malone, Clyde Carson, RJ, Compton AV etc. I have two singles currently available for download on any music platform that you may use. “They Don’t Like Me” and “Drama”.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
THA JEWLER: My songs are about real life experiences that happen to me, my family or friends. I also have some uptempo feel good songs that should prompt a good dance workout or be the soundtrack for your gathering or event.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your favorite song to perform and why?
THA JEWLER: Right now my favorite song to perform would be a toss up between “Drama” and “They Don’t Like Me”. Drama features one of my engineers on the project, Kiel. It’s my favorite because it’s a raw but smooth sounding. It peeks into the windows of my life. I love the message and the opportunity to showcase who I am while performing a song about a topic many can relate to. I love to perform “They Don’t Like Me” which features an artist from LA by the name of Seriez. I love performing this song because it’s lyrically inclined on my part. The energy just from the beat alone makes you feel like you’re about to succeed at whatever you’re going to do while listening to it.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What has surprised you most in the pursuit of your music career?
THA JEWLER: So far along my musical journey the most surprising thing is meeting/working with artists I listen to. I admire their humbleness and the way they react to my music. Sometimes you never know till someone who’s been where you’re heading reassures you of the greatness you possess .
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?
THA JEWLER: I have way too many musical influences to list them all but I’ll give you some. My first 2 songs that I could remember hearing and knowing as a child were Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogative” and DJ Quik’s “Black Pussy”. I loved how they said what they felt and wanted to say while moving crowds. Both were very influential in my pursuit of music. A few of my other influences include: Fabolous, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, MC Hammer and Prince. Thanks to my family I listen to a lot of music from all kinds of genres because there isn’t one way only to make music. It keeps me hungry to create new, whether that be a business idea, solution, beat or song. For me it comes from being inspired by art, especially in the music form.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would your describe your music to people?
THA JEWLER: I’d say that my music is a timeless experience that you’d want to be a part of as a listener. If you don’t enjoy or prefer great beats and lyrics then I’d say Tha Jewler is not the artist you’d want to listen to. On the other hand if you do prefer those wonderful things in the artists you listen to, feel free dive into my music Catalog ASAP (no Rocky). I tend to stay in my lane musically, while giving you my truth or something thought provoking on each record.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?
THA JEWLER: Here are a few things things that make my music stand out:
My voice, delivery, lyrical content, authenticity within my songs, consistency, my hustle/work ethic, my style, and commercial appeal to wide age range. Also, I can produce my own tracks or write for others. My confidence and being from Portland,Oregon also makes me stand out.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What would you like to see changed in today’s music industry?
THA JEWLER: I would like to see more serious artists have opportunities to advance their careers through the correct networking, investing, and supporting resources. I’m not referring to the artist who has or “feels” like they have the most talent, but won’t get a job to invest in themselves. I’d also like to see radio stations be more active within the cities/communities they play music in.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects that you are currently working on?
THA JEWLER: I am currently working on a project called Text Messages & VoiceMail with a pre project release called Call Waiting. I have a new single “Drama” that just came out and is available for purchase and download. We’re deciding on which record will be next for an upcoming release.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
