Hailing from Illinois, Dre Rob pulls inspiration from his musically talented family, and more importantly; his inner drive for success within the industry. Armed with raw talent, vocal range, and captivating performances, Dre Rob knows music is his calling. He explains, “I feel like it’s my calling and my lifestyle. It’s the thing I know how to do best in life.” With this amount of confidence and the talent to back it up, Dre Rob is causing attention in all the right ways.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What city and state are you from?

DRE ROB: I am from Peoria, IL. It is the hometown of some of the greatest performers and musicians such as: Richard Pryor, Tim Kelly and Bob Robinson of the hit producing duo Tim & Bob, and Shaun Livingston of the Golden State Warriors.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?

DRE ROB: I started out in church, like most R&B singers do. A few of my cousins and I had a church group where we would turn hip hop and R&B songs into gospel songs and people loved it! Plus I had a R&B group at school where we would sing in front of the school whenever we had school assemblies. That opened me up to all types of music. Also, my family has nothing but musicians and singers. My step-father was also a musician. I grew up listening to all types of old school music such as Earth, Wind and Fire, KC and the Sunshine Band, Donny Hathaway, Otis Redding, and The Temptations. I also sung in many choirs and have several opportunities to sing solo.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Why do you want to record and release your own music?

DRE ROB: I feel like it’s my calling and my lifestyle. It’s the thing I know how to do best in life. Music is missing that soul that it used to have, and I feel like I can help bring it back.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?

DRE ROB: My songs are about all types of things. Whatever I may feel like writing about, such as love, love making uplifting songs, situational songs, and just everyday life things that you may go through.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?

DRE ROB: As I said earlier, I heard a lot of old school growing up, such as EW&F, and Donny Hathaway. But my main musical influences are: New Edition, BabyFace, Usher, Tyrese, Michael Jackson, Jamie Foxx, Tank, Dru Hill, Luther Vandross, H-Town and a hometown music friend of mines and mentor G-Muziq. I could go on and on, but those are some of my favorites that I tried to mold my singing and writing around.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?

DRE ROB: I would describe it as an updated 90’s style of music. My music is laidback. You can throw my music on when you clean the house up type or cruising with your lady. It is feel good type of music.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?

DRE ROB: What makes me stand out is that when I perform, I always try to have my band with me if I can. That’s a thing I have been known for and performances are so much better when you have live instruments. That is something people don’t forget when you bring my name up. Also, I’m a laid back type of guy, no ego here. I’m just someone who loves to do music and make people feel good while listening.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in your music career and how did you overcome?

DRE ROB: One of the hardest things I had to face is rejection. I was one of those guys that was never picked first, never really won any awards for music. I always had to prove myself and push harder just so my voice can be heard. I was the one that didn’t get a lot of help, until I started doing research on how to do things and taking matters in my own hands. Once I did that opportunities started to roll in.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

DRE ROB: Right now I am currently working on a nice amount of new songs for my upcoming album G2(Grown 2).  I will be releasing song after song so people can listen and see what I’ve been working on real soon. Also I am working with different artists singing hooks on their projects. I’m excited!!

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

DRE ROB: My career goals are to make great music that people can listen to 10, 20, even 30 years from now. I want my songs to have a good long lasting positive impression on people for a long time to come. In 10 years, I would love to see myself living comfortably, still doing and writing good music, touring and being able to take care of my family while doing it. Like I said, this is a lifestyle for me and I love it.
