IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Tell us about your music background?

JAKEUP THE SAVIOR: My music background consists of listening to the Slim Shady LP when I was 7 years old. My two older sisters only listened to him and N’Sync and me being the youngest I was stuck listening to what they did. Thank God Eminem was in the mix because that is what introduced me to Hip Hop. From a young age I began free writing for fun and in high school those fun free writes turned into poetry in my senior year of high school. My creative writing teacher Ms. Simpson told me I had enormous potential when it came to writing and that year I wrote and recorded my first song. From there, the rest is history. It was in that moment when I performed that song in front of my classmates that I decided that Rap is what I wanted to do with my life and I wasn’t going to let anyone stop me from achieving my goals.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What inspires you to create music?

JAKEUP THE SAVIOR: Everything inspires me to make music not just one topic. My life, the good and bad parts that come with that inspire me. My girlfriend and future wife Gabriella inspires me. My family and friends inspire me. What I see going on around the world, all the violence and discrimination and evil and hatred toward one another inspires me as I believe if we came together instead of continually try and bring each other down we would accomplish more than we could ever think possible. But most importantly, my inspiration to make music comes from God because without Him none of this would be possible. He gives me more motivation and inspiration to make fun, loving, exciting, funny music that only JakeUp The Savior can make. I have had nothing in life being down to 87 cents at one point so I know how precious life is and I am grateful for the blessings God has granted me in my life with Gabriella, my family, my friends and my music.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some of your biggest accomplishments to date?

JAKEUP THE SAVIOR: I’ve had a lot of accomplishments with my music from recording an entire album in 2 days to signing one of my fans baby. But if I had to choose one to stand out it’s when I performed in Prescott Arizona. I performed in front of over 5,000 people in the middle of winter so that should say something right there. I got to meet a lot of amazing people of all ages as well as my followers and my fans (MiMiCans). They call themselves MiMiCans because of my MiMiC slogan I have made known with my compant MiMiC Entertainment. The slogan says, “MiMiC me and do as I do.” Meaning if you MiMiC JakeUp The Savior there isn’t anything you can’t do. Hence the “CAN” at the end of MiMiCans.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: You have done extremely well as an independent artist, what are some things that have contributed to your success?

JAKEUP THE SAVIOR: The reason I have done so well as an independent artist is because of Industry All Access. I have been working with them for a long time now and they have given me step-by-step procedures to follow in order to gain success in the music industry. They have shown me how to look mainstream and still have that Independent Label next to my name. Also, from my loving support from my future wife Gabriella as well as my friends and family who have always pushed me and supported me throughout this long journey I have been on. But most importantly, because of God as if it wasn’t for Him I wouldn’t be alive today. I gave up everything in my life including music to God and the moment I did that is when everything came together perfectly. I am living proof that if you trust in God, and have faith, anything is possible.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is some advice you can give to upcoming artists?

JAKEUP THE SAVIOR: The most important advice I can give an upcoming artist is to stay true to yourself. There is only one YOU on this earth and that is what makes you so unique. Nobody can copy that and if they try they wont come close to the original version which is YOU. So stay true to yourself no matter what that entails and if you do that, stay hungry, continue to work and remain positive. I promise in the end it will all be worth it.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some projects, shows, and events that you have coming up this year?

JAKEUP THE SAVIOR: I have a couple of projects dropping this year. My solo album “Blank Canvas” will be getting released toward the fall. My album titled, “Gabby’s Gift.” is going to be released shortly after and I have a mixtape I am working on with Arizona rapper BO (Brandon Merrill) coming soon as well. Its going to be a very busy year but I am looking forward to the busy schedule and meeting/hanging out with all of my MiMiCans!
