JEZY: I was born in Toronto, ON and reside in a small town called Innisfil which is about an hour North of Toronto. Both of my parents were born in Jamaica and now both currently live in Canada as well.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?

JEZY: I grew up surrounded by Reggae, Rap and Hip Hop. I have always enjoyed rap and hip hop the most and that is where my love of music stems from.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?

JEZY: My songs are all based on my real life experiences that I believe my listeners can relate to. It is mainly positive and uplifting so my fans can feel good when hearing my music. I rap a lot about my family my friends and my positive relationships because I find that it is very important in life and people like to listen to things that are relatable.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your favorite song to perform and why?

JEZY: My favorite song to perform has to be has to be “Beat Destroyer” off my 2nd mixtape “Killed It Vol.2”. The reason why that song is my favorite to perform is that the beat is just crazy and the feeling I have on stage when it drops is incredible, I feel invincible in that moment. The energy really radiates off of me and I see it reciprocated back to me from my fans in the audience.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What has surprised you the most in the pursuit of a career in music?

JEZY: The one specific thing that surprised me most in my music career has to be my fans. I don’t just catch people who only like Rap music, It tends to be all different type of people who say things like “I don’t even like rap that much but your stuff is awesome and I look forward to what’s next”. I find it very motivating and encouraging that I touch a lot of different people.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: Who are your musical influences?

JEZY: My musical influences are Gucci Mane, B.O.B., and Drake. Also, pretty much the whole southern rap scene has left a mark on me because I’m a big fan of that style.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: How would you describe your music to people?

JEZY: I would describe my music as new school rap that’s relatively positive. I take pride in not having songs solely based on money, women and materialistic things. I think enough people do that so there is no need for me to follow that path.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What makes you stand out from other artists?

JEZY: The things that make me stand out from other artist is the fact I don’t rap about what everyone else does. My sound is refreshing and I have a voice that is not replicated in today’s music. I try and incorporate signature ad libs on top of my music and I find that people really enjoy it. Rapping is fun to me and I try and show that with some of the things I do to enhance my songs.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What would you like to see changed in today’s music industry?

JEZY: One thing I would like to see changed in today’s music industry has to be the repetitive music. A lot of rap songs now-a- days all sound the same or they are all portraying the same message. I feel that the people who have all this money and resources to produce great music are just being lazy; you have to be different to stand out so why fall in with the rest?

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are some upcoming projects that you are currently working on?

JEZY: Some of the projects I am currently working on are my 2nd mixtape “Killed It Vol.2” and my 5 song EP “Focused”.

IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

JEZY: My career goals are to make a living off what I love and to expand my fan base to thousands/millions. Also, performing in front of 20,000 plus people would be something I would really relish. I see myself in 10 years being a successful musician that the youth looks up to and inspiring the next wave of young musicians.
