ALEX BOYE: I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. I was born and raised in London, England. My parents are from Nigeria, West Africa.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your music background?
ALEX BOYE: My musical background is pretty eclectic. I actually started off as a dancer. When I was living in London, I was featured in a lot of music videos for European artists. I landed a gig as a dancer for George Michael at the MTV European Music Awards. While I was there, I met several famous artists and watched them all from backstage. It was a surreal experience. After watching the reaction of the fans cheering and going ballistic for them, it was then that I decided I wanted to be a “lead singer” as opposed to a “backup dancer”. I started auditioning for talent shows, and making a name for myself. I put together a boy band in the late 90’s and was the lead singer. We were signed to Universal Records in the UK. We had a hit with a song called “Rumors” a hip-hop remake of an old 80’s song. We had top 20 hits in over 15 European countries and performed on many big stages. We opened up for many US acts that came over to Europe like Backstreet Boys, N’Sync, Missy Elliott, Buster Rhymes, MC Hammer, and Bryan Adams to name a few.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What are your songs about?
ALEX BOYE: My songs are generally about celebrating life and the uniqueness of people, and embracing what is the same. There is so much in this world that tries to divide. My mission is to facilitate ” less shade, more shine,” through my music.
IAA INDUSTRY NEWS: What is your favorite music to perform and why?
ALEX BOYE: My favorite song to perform is “We All Bleed The Same” I wrote this song in response to the shootings that have been occurring and how the media has used it to draw contention, judgment, and hate. I always get a great response from this song and many people after my shows will tell me they feel deep emotion and even healing from the music.
