Little girl saved – by an HIV-infected liver: World first as doctors transplant organ from HIV-positive mother into her daughter in a desperate bid to cure her end-stage liver failure
Some may call it crazy and others may say it’s selfish but like the old saying “If There Is A Will There’s A Way”. A little girl best hope for a liver transplant was from her HIV-positive mother. With a worldwide shortage of organs a mother from Johannesburg a city in South Africa had to make a life changing decision. It was between either watching her daughter die from liver disease or infecting her daughter by donating her liver. She chose to save her daughter life and now a year later doctors reports mother and daughter made full recoveries, and treatment from PrEP(pre-exposure prophylaxis) may have kept her daughter free of HIV. Remember Philadelphia 32nd AIDS walk is October 21, 2018.
